»The Exorcist/Catholicism/Priesthood«

I saw the movie "The Exorcist" the other night, and i noticed something kind of interesting. In the final exorcism scene with Kerris and the old priest, their black robes are almost identical to Neo's usual Matrix outfit in Reloaded. I don't know if this is a reference to "The Exorcist" itself, or a reference to Catholicism as a whole, with Neo in the role of the priest.

Any thoughts?

I couldn't give less of a crap what color the robes are, but go get the exorcist and look at their robes! They're practically identical in every way! Come on now!

In my photographic memory I get nothing but static. But I seem to remember that you have a point. It may be a feeling from another thread about something else, but somehow I do believe that the robes are almost identical.

So are they standard Catholic robes? Then forget it. If not, it may be a hidden reference to his work with freeing more minds in 6 months than in 6 years. He exorcises the machine demon from the human mind.

What Neo wears looks like what is called a cassock: few priests under 65 in the U.S. wear this today: more conservative ones might still wear it.

I doubt that we are supposed to think of The Exorcist , but probably of Neo as a religious - yet rather violent - figure.
