The Wachowskis never intended for people to think (at least in the movies) that Zion was just another illusion for the people to be led into. BUT, it could definently be viewed that way- too many unintentional 'hints' such as Neo's abilities outside The Matrix (all Morpheus said for him to do was believe, maybe if Morpheus or Trinity had believed that they could do things outside the Matrix too, maybe they would also kick butt even in Zion). Anyway, I can kinda understand where the Wachowskis are soming from, but it's sad when they have to just go through the motions (Hollywood motions that is) so that the general audience (who's IQ is apparently too low lately) will 'get it' and not ask any questions; it's all pretty, flashy lights and show after the first one (which really, truly was my favorite).
I liked the first of the trilogy best because it proposed a new 'sixth sense' kind of mystery with more of an edge. It reminds me of Donnie Darko, except with more kung-fu and different camera work. And every scene seemed to be more well thought out...every part seemed to have meaning and symbols (Trinity looking in her motorcycle's mirror at Neo getting taken away by agents, which, by the way, was an excellent shot). I caught none of that in the second or third Matrix...which was so disappointing I almost wish I sould re-make them myself with the same stylistic ideas that were used in the first film. Does the green tint seem to be more 'old school' to you in the first one? Everything visual definently seemed different to me..I mean, c'mon. Those crappy colorful clothes the people in Zion wore? Horrible....compare the awesome clothes in the first movie to the second and third additions...ridiculous, huh? See what I mean?....I just find it sad that the second and third Matrix films were so...unoriginal...in a Hollywood plot viewpoint anyway...yeah.
