I believe that Zee, who is Link's girl/wife is the mother of the Matrix. According to previews for Revolutions, she will be playing a much greater role.

Ahem, so what? Does this make anybody a mother?

If she were named Demeter, i would agree, but Persephone is a daughter's name, as per greek mythology.

Everybody has a mother. In greek mythology, she is the daughter of Demeter, so what? We don't have to take the character's names so literally.

True, but I see very little evidence that persephone is acting in a "motherly" fashion. Rather, she does act like the mythological character of that name, who was abducted by hades into the underworld as his bride (though for half the year she was able to go "topside" and visit her mum).

If we transpose the Merinvingian (sp -- I can never remember how to spell the name when I'm posting) as representing Hades, the king of the underworld, and assume that the Matrix is the underworld, full of "lost souls", then her name makes a lot of sense.

It also explains partly why she'd be so keen for a kiss, with all the rush of emotions that such appears to entail.

Zee can't be the mother. The mother of the matrix is a program (if the architect is telling the truth).

I have said before and I'll say it again. There is no evidence for anyone other than the Oracle being the mother.

Who acts most like a mother to Neo?

Who was the only name mentioned by the Architect?

The Oracle, but the question is not "Who is the mother of Neo?".

He doesn't mention any names.

The mother of the matrix should be construed as a mother-figure. Who is the only mother-figure?

The architect doesn't name the Oracle... however, her name was the only one mentioned in the discussion of the mother.

In the same way the Architect is construed as a father-figure?

Oh god... Look, there is no discussion about the mother of the matrix, the Architect just mentions a program which stumbled upon a solution that made matrix what it is today and says she'd be the mother if he's the father. Neo makes a guess and he gets a sarcastic "Please!" back. That is all. The "Please!" can mean anything and I'm not saying the Oracle isn't the program which figured out the solution I'm just saying this is NOT any kind of proof that the Oracle is the mother of the matrix. The question whether she is or isn't the mother is irrelevant anyway, I don't know why so many people bother in trying to figure it out.

The Oracle is the Mother of the Matrix!
You people are under the illusion of choice. You have no choice other than to believe that the Oracle is the Mother.
When the Architect is talking about the Matrix with Neo, he actually says that the Oracle is the Mother of the Matrix!

Check a latin dictionary. Matrix means mother. Or, at least, an animal that breeds (like a mother).

Maggie has to be the mother. (In case you're wondering, Maggie is that nurse aboard the Hammer.)

My friend suggested the idea to me, and at first I was skeptical. But then, Maggie said something that convinced me:

"He's in some kind of coma."

How could that mean anything other than the fact that she is the Mother of the Matrix?

"What's that, honey?" "Oh, nothing. Just a Kung-Fu Swedish Rastafarian Hell-Demon."
